Wes Montgomery & Wynton Kelly Trio – Smokin’ at the Half Note [1965]

This album showcases Wes Montgomery, master guitarman, with Wynton Kelly’s excellent trio. “Smokin” is an appropriate name for this album, because that’s exactly what this group does. While these tunes are all mid-tempo, the great interplay between the musicians, and tremendous solos, really burn. “Four on Six” has one of my favorite Montgomery solos ever, and “No Blues” is a great extended jam that showcases the whole group. A definite must-have for jazz fans, Montgomery fans, and guitar fans alike.
